New Year

We are back to school with, hopefully, much rest.  The students seem excited to be back and wanting to share about their adventures over the past two weeks.  We jumped right back into the grind.  This week we have been working on the following outcomes.
In Math, we continue to look at whole numbers.  We sorted them, we catagorized them and we are currently working on Estimation.  So, it would be great to have your child describe what it is that they have learned about these topics.  Much of the current Math Program is about understanding and explaining strategies and problem solving.  So if you see an opportunity to put these skills and concepts to work, please use it.  It is such great learning when experienced in the 'real world.'   A new unit is beginning in Science. It is wheels and levers.  The students are currently working on completing a title page for this Topic.
Language Arts we have been reflecting upon the past year and the year to come.  We were thinking about the things we do well and those we would like to improve at.  Our Spellling Review Test will be next Thursday, January 16, 2014.  This review test can have any words from Lesson One to current lessons.  The students only have one opportunity to write this test.   In combination with Social Studies, we have been working at sorting the data that we have collected about our Regions.  We will be comparing the similarities and differences throughout Alberta.  We will be learning about taking notes as we present our information to each other to complete our learning.  If you are travelling around the province, please make a point of talking to the students about the area that you are in.  Have a great weekend!
