Meetings, Meetings, Meetings

This week has been exhausting!  It was great to see so many parents at the  Parent Meetings that were held throughout  week. To the parents who were unable to attend please feel free to contact me by telephone or email.

Also, we had a field trip at the Leduc #1  Discovery Centre on Wednesday.  It was an awesome learning experience for both the grade four and five students.  The staff at the Discovery Centre are very hospitable.  We had the privilege of meeting the son of Vern Hunter, Don Hunter.  We got our photo taken with him on a drilling rig.  Vern Hunter was the Tool Push on the Leduc # 1 when it struck oil.  He has been credited with this successful find after some thirty "dry holes" in other parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan.  We learned that the town of Devon was built for the oil people because Leduc didn't want anything to do with the oilmen.  We experience a simulation of a drilling bit digging its way down into the levels of the earth until it reaches oil.  This was fascinating.  This would be a great Sunday adventure for a family.  In the summer you can camp there or at the very least have a picnic.

Yikes!  next week is Halloween.
