November has begun. ..

November is upon us. . . and we are hard at work on our Social Studies. The first part is called 'Influences of the Land'. We have learned how to read maps using longitude and latitude and how it can help us pin point a location. We have learned that Alberta has six Natural Regions and our fieldtrip supported our learning on natural resources. We are beginning a research project after much preparation. We will be using our 'Group Work Expectation' which the students have come up with earlier this year, to guide us on how to work in a group. Also, we have talked about sources and what would be considered first hand or a second had source.  We have done preparation on how to gather the necessary information (data).  We are in the midst of defining the vocabulary words that connect with this part of the curriculum. Then, the project has begun.

Finally, our Remembrance Day Service will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m.  We have been learning how to blend colours while colouring our Poppies with pencil crayons. Interestingly, one student told me, "it takes a long time to do a good job."  We took a look at the poem Flander's Fields and briefly discussed the author a Canadian Doctor, John McRae.  What it must have been like for him a hundred years ago?  Also, we listened to a song by Terry Kelley "It's a Pittance of Time." He is a Canadian songwriter from Eastern Canada.  What is he talking about?  The students will be asked to repond.
