This week's update

Skimming and scanning is a reading strategy that we continued to learn about this week.  We talked about how we actually do a lot of skimming and scanning all of the time.  This strategy will come in handy while doing our research of our natural regions in Alberta.

Our previous learning of nouns and verbs is being put to use as we learn how to build simple and then compound sentences.  We were investigating wheter or not all sentences have a noun as its subject.  We will continue to look at how sentences are built.  Then we will explore the different types o sentences and how important it is to varies the length of sentences for fluency.

In math we are exploring the  patterns in numbers.  There are many of them.  As we look at these patterns we are also learning about multiples of numbers.  Some students still refer to this as skip counting, however, others are understanding this is multiplication.   It is interesting to observe that skip counting has been around since grade one, however, when you use the multiply word - suddenly Math gets scary.  We shall be having a unit test shortly.
